King KatAt most lakes, anglers are excited when they catch a catfish that tips the scales at 50 pounds or more.  At Pickwick and Wilson lakes in Alabama, anglers are disappointed if they fail to catch at least one 50-pounder when they go fishing for "big cats".

Many of the top catfish anglers in the country will converge on Pickwick and Wilson lakes to fish for big catfish in the spring of 2014 when the Cabela's King Kat tournament series makes a stop there on April 12.

Anglers can fish either lake. Tournament hours are from 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. The weigh-in will be at Riverfront Park in Sheffield. The host hotel is Jameson Inn in Sheffield.

Darrell Van Vactor, president of the King Kat tournament series, said Pickwick and Wilson lakes are known around the world as some of the best places to catch big catfish.

"We see big catfish caught at other lakes where we hold tournaments, but we never see the number of big catfish being weighed in that we do when we come to Sheffield," Van Vactor said. "We love coming to Pickwick and Wilson. They are awesome catfish lakes."

For more details on the tournament call Cabela's King Kat at 270-395-4204 or Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau at 256-383-0783.
